North Carolina (pop: 8,683,242 ),The “Old North State" is one of the original states, it is home to the first English colony in the Americas. It was also also the location of the first successful flight of the Wright brothers' airplane. North Carolina is bordered by South Carolina on the south, Georgia to the southwest, Tennessee to the west, Virginia on the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The western section of the state is part of the Appalachian Mountain range - which includes the picturesque Great Smoky Mountains as well as the Blue Ridge Mountains.

North Carolina is a national leader in agriculture, financial services, and industry. The state's main industries are textiles, chemicals, electrical equipment, paper and paper products and Tobacco, one of North Carolina's earliest sources of revenue, remains vital to the local economy.

North Carolina is also one of the largest film making states outside of California and New York and home to Fort Bragg, near Fayetteville, the largest and most comprehensive military base in the United States. The State capital is Raleigh and the largest city is Charlotte.
